Kids are gross.
I’m slightly embarrassed to say it, but it’s rare that a day goes by without me repeating things like “Stop eating random food off the floor that you have no idea where it came from”, “Don’t lick that”, and my personal fave “Please take your shoe out of your mouth!”. My 5 year old is extremely bright, however she seems to have no boundaries when it comes to what she puts in her mouth.
Between environmental germs, and those that seem to boomerang through daycare and school it feels like much of the winter months, someone in our house is sick. This year has been especially bad with wave 3 currently passing through. I might as well have a minor degree in nursing and medicine with all the practice I’ve gained this year.
Knowing the various signs and symptoms that the plague is upon us has been crucial in treating symptoms and helping prevent the spread between family members and friends. Early detection is key – here is a list of the most common signs of cold and flu:
- Scratchy Throat – this is usually the first to arrive, and often the most shrugged away symptom. A staple in our house is hot honey water with lemon.
- Congestion – subtle voice changes and sporadic sniffles are often signs of congestion. Menthol rubs can help clear this up, as can placing a humidifier in rooms overnight.
- Runny Nose – pretty certain I could own shares in tissue stock with the amount that I purchase in a season. Try purchasing tissue with lotion or aloe built right in. This will help keep away the red nose from blowing often.
- Fatigue, aches, pains and fever – it’s important to listen to your body and know when it’s time to slow down. This can be easier to do as an adult than as a child which is why as soon as you feel something coming on, consider taking all-in-one pain, fever and nausea reliever such as Gravol™ Multi-symptom™. With naturally-sourced ginger and willowbark. This will help you fight off the cold and not leave you drowsy.
Helpful Tips
- Keep warm! Grab your Snuggie and hot cuppa chamomile tea or honey lemon water to help you relax and ease congestion and a sore throat.
- Get some sleep! It’s far easier to become run down if you’re not getting enough rest. Your body needs time to restore and re-energize so make sure you’re getting enough.
