Can you believe that it’s almost 2016?! What a year it’s been!
Regardless of if you’re praising the end of 2015, or anxiously awaiting 2016 – New Years Eve signifies out with the old, and in with the new – a time to celebrate the past and ring in the new year.
Whether you’re celebrating this New Years Eve with kids, or just kids at heart, Netflix is your go-to for at home festivities. From family favourite movie classics to the new on-demand countdowns, you can now get the party started anytime!
Here is my top 4 tips for celebrating New Years Eve with kids – or kids at heart:
- Lie – I mean hey, 2015 is almost over why not get one last little white lie out before you start fresh in 2016? My social media feeds have been up in arms as of late with complaints of parents lying to their children and “tricking” them into celebrating early just to get the kids in bed a few hours early. Now lets be real here – my children outlast my bed time most nights, so this is less about them, and more about me and the fact that since hitting 30, and assuming the crazy busy mom with two kids lifestyle, I’m hard pressed to stay up past 10pm on a good day! Netflix has launched six on-demand countdown specials that parents can use to ring in the new year anytime! Parents choose when it’s time to say goodnight and the kids choose how to celebrate with their favourite characters including: Puffin Rock, Care Bears & Cousins, Inspector Gadget, King Julien, and favorites from DreamWorks Animation like Mr. Peabody and Sherman and Project Mc2. Chalk this one up as a parenting win!
- Eat all of the things – I heard someone say recently that they would pay extra for all Christmas chocolate, candy, and baking to self destruct on December 26th. When celebrating New Years Eve at home, I like set up buffet style – putting out all of the cookies candies and goodies that we’ve received over the holidays. This is one last shot to indulge in holiday spirit before expelling it from the house and starting 2016 off fresh.
- Make all of the noise – This is the one day of the year that crashing, banging, whistling, hooting and hollering are all acceptable forms of communication in my house! When that clock strikes 12 (or 7, 8, 9 or 10 if it may!) get loud! And don’t forget to walk out your back door, and in through your front door. This is a long standing tradition that my family and I have always done to signify out with the old, and in with the new!
- Have a party – New Years Eve is a time to celebrate – whether it’s a PJ party with popcorn and pizza, or a fancy dress up party with mini pastries and appies. Make sure to take some time, reflect on the year that’s passed and get excited for the year to come. Enjoy those around you, those apart from you, and close the year out with some safe and happy fun!
From my family to yours, I wish all of my readers the happiest of New Years! I hope that you have an excellent night with friends, family, strangers, or even just yourself, and I wish you a healthy and prosperous 2016!
