There is no question that my coffee maker ranks among my top 5 prized kitchen appliances. It might as well be a lifeline for me in the mornings, religiously brewing me the rich, hot, delicious cuppa jo that I so rely on.
As the name implies, a coffee maker is made to produce delicious cups of café latte, cappuccino, café Americana, or any other type of caffeinated drinks that you love. However, a little known fact is that this versatile machine can also be used to cook delicious meals!
To most people, poaching salmon in a coffee pot (yes, you can do that!) may seem like a useless task. You wouldn’t even attempt to do it if you have easy access to basic kitchen tools. But for many people; studio apartment dwellers and college students, cooking your meals in a coffee maker can save you time and money!
Here is a list of 6 things you can easily cook in your coffee maker!
1. Oatmeal
Compared to making a pot of hot coffee, oatmeal is actually easier to make. Just pour a packet of oatmeal, honey, and a pinch of salt in the pot, then place an herbal tea bag in the filler basket. Pour 4 ounces of water in the coffee pot. Let it boil for 5 minutes and enjoy!
2. Poached Chicken
For this dish, mix the chicken breast, butter, and water in the coffee pot and cook for 15 minutes. Don’t forget to flip the chicken half way to ensure even cooking. Serve with couscous and a side of veggies for a complete meal.
3. Grilled Cheese Sandwich
While this dish doesn’t require the coffee pot, you’ll be using the pot burner to grill this sammie. Similar to cooking on a regular pan or stove, turn your coffee maker on so the element heats up, toss your bread on the element and grill away!
4. Boiled Eggs
A simple meal great for making on the go, simply place the eggs in the coffee pot. Pour water in the filler and let the eggs sit in the boiling water for at least 10 minutes.
5. Chocolate Fondue
Need an instant dessert? Now, you can create a delicious fondue using your trusted coffee machine. Heat cream in the carafe for 15 minutes. Add in broken bits of a chocolate bar until melted, approximately 12 minutes, and stir it thoroughly until chocolate is mixed and creamy. Serve with fruit, marshmallows, or cookies.
6. Veggies
Place the vegetables in the coffee pot and pour water in the reservoir and start. Let the veggies sit for a few minutes on the heat. Your vegetables will turn out tender yet crunchy and delicious!
