One of the biggest complaints I hear about bento is that it’s far too time consuming and requires too much work. Well, this complaint also happens to be one of the biggest myths in bento making (in my opinion). Or rather, can be one of the biggest myths in bento making.
To prove this point, I created this bento, twice, in less than 10 minutes! The time killer in this lunch was boiling and shaping the egg, but that can be easily omitted if you don’t have the time.
A simple cookie cutter takes a plain old Sunbutter and jelly sammie and makes it cute with minimal effort (don’t forget to save the scraps for Bento Bread Scrap French Toast!), shape the egg with a mold, add in a small silicone cup to match the theme, and decorate with picks to finish it off.

Enjoy!

Yay! Glad to hear you enjoyed this! Humans are very visual, and presentation is often an excellent way to conquer those picky eaters!

So for us newbies… How does one “boil and shape” an egg? And how did you cut your carrots?
Sarah Kertcher says
To shape the egg, you’ll need an egg mold. You can get them on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002TZ04J6/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B002TZ04J6&linkCode=as2&tag=mothyoavmo-20), or sometimes local specialty stores.
As for the carrots, for these I just used a potato peeler and peeled off long strips! Perhaps I’ll do up a tutorial! 🙂

Note to self: don’t read blogs like this on an empty stomach! 😉
But seriously, I think that’s really clever! What a great way to help make a picky eater more likely to enjoy their lunch.
