Clean Your Indoor Grill
I don’t know about you, but I almost always forget to clean my indoor grill – likely because as soon as dinner is done, cleaning is the last thing on my mind! Once you’ve pulled your food off your grill and turned it off, dampen a couple of paper towels (just enough to cover the surface), lay them flat on the cooking surface of your grill and close the lid. The leftover heat will steam clean and loosen any stuck on foods, and allow you to simply wipe the grill clean! Doesn’t get much easier than that!
Keep your fruits and veggies fresh
Ok, I’m not claiming to understand how or why this works, but I can attest to the fact that it does in fact work. I leave the science to the scientists and the blogging to the bloggers. I primarily use this Life Hack on salad, but I’m told it works on virtually all fruits and veggies. After rinsing and drying your salad, put a piece of paper towel on the bottom of your storage container, add half of your salad, one more paper towel, and then the rest of your salad to the container. Seal and store in your fridge. This little trick will help keep your salad from getting wilty, as well as noticeably increase the life span of your salad – because, you know… You’ve been promising yourself for days that you’re going to eat it.
Rapid cool drinks
Did you know – if you wrap a canned or bottled beverage in a wet paper towel and put it in the freezer for just 15 minutes it will be ice cold? Game Changer! This has come in handy more than once with the amazing weather we’ve been experiencing lately, which has given rise to many a last minute, unannounced, no-time-to-prepare backyard BBQs. Cheers!
Rapid cook veggies
Being a food blogger means that I should be meticulous in the kitchen, crushing recipes left, right and center with precision timing and accuracy. Being a mom blogger means that I typically get side-tracked halfway through preparing meals, answering homework questions, mediating sibling disagreements, or other random acts of parenting. As a result, more often than not I find myself forgetting a side here or there. Thanks to paper towels and our trusty friend the microwave, you can wrap veggies such as asparagus, corn, and even potatoes in wet paper towels and they’ll be cooked to perfection before you can even say “should have made mac and cheese!”
Soften Brown Sugar
Again with the science – even though I live in a very damp and often humid place, for some reason all of the moisture always seems to escape my brown sugar, leaving me with hard clumps of uselessness. Who wants that? A quick fix for this problem is transfer your brown sugar to a microwavable container, place a damp paper towel on top, seal with lid and microwave for 20 seconds. Just like that your brown sugar is back to being smooth and silky and ready to be made into something delicious. If your brown sugar is really hard, you may need to repeat the process a couple of times. Happy baking!
