A few months back, I was in contact with the fantastic people over at Smart Planet about reviewing one of their awesome, eco friendly, collapsible, silicone, lunch boxes. Not only did they jump at the idea of a review, but they offered up a giveaway too! Sweet! I almost couldn’t contain my excitement when the box from Smart Planet arrived.
I received two units to review, however today I’ll be reviewing this large unit only. Stay tuned this week for my full review of both products that were sent!
I was impressed as soon as I opened the box. The packaging is sleek and minimal and lives up to their “eco-friendly” claim. Even the peel and stick label is made of 37% recycled content!
One of the immediate sellers for me on this lunch container is the fact that it’s collapsible. I have never seen a collapsible lunch container before so this was exciting and intriguing. I’m guaranteed to make a minimum of 2 lunches each day, sometimes 4, and sometimes 6 depending on how ambitious I’m feeling! When collapsed, these are incredibly space saving, and take up very little room in the cupboard which makes Mr.Morethanyouraveragemom very happy!

Built in condiment cup
I love the innovative spork and carrying tray that snaps right inside the lid. This design minimizes the chance of sporks being lost from being left in lunch bags. The pressure sealed condiment cup is great for keeping your dips and dressings separate from your food.
I was pleasantly surprised by the actual volume of the compartments on this container. They are deceivingly large! So much so, that I decided to measure and see just how large they are. 4 cups of water fit into the largest compartment, and each of the 2 smaller compartments fit 1 cup of water. This is heavy duty science people!
The next stage of my high tech experimentation was the leak test. I’m a grab and go type of gal, and I take public transportation to get to work. It’s not always guaranteed that my lunch will be contained in a lunch bag, or that it will stay upright for the entire duration of my commute. This test was crucial. I filled all compartments with water and shook vigorously. I’m pleased to report that this container passed the leak test with flying colors! There was no internal to external leakage that I was able to notice. One thing to note however, online reviews seem to indicate that the internal compartments will leak between each other, but I have yet to test that out. My first test of this container was for my own lunch (the kids can’t have all the fun!). If it’s not obvious already, it was a huge success. I packed a huge salad in the large compartment complete with raspberry vinaigrette in the dip cup, some peas and a hardboiled egg in one of the small compartments, and chips and a small dip container with Wholly Guacamole in the other smaller container.
My biggest fear with this container (aside from it leaking which I already tested) was that it was going to partially collapse during my travels. I’m happy to report that it held up wonderfully! Going home with an empty container that was 1/3 less the size than when I came to work, was also a bonus.
My overall rating of this container is without a doubt, 2 thumbs up! Even my son had lunch box envy when he saw it in the morning!
