As back to school time is upon us, I’ve compiled a list of back to school tips, that despite their simplicity, need not be overlooked!
1. Trial run lunches – Pack your child’s lunch in the lunch containers they’ll be using prior to sending them on their first day. This may seem silly, but this will ensure that your child(ren) can open and re-close all the snaps, zippers, lids, etc. that are a part of their lunch pack. This is also a great way to familiarize your child with their lunch kit. The last thing you want on the first day of school is your little getting to lunch time not remembering which lunch case is theirs!
2. Label EVERYTHING! – Many parents spend a small fortune investing in special lunch containers, thermoses, reusable drink containers, back packs, lunch bags, etc. The last thing you want to do is wind up replacing everything after your busy student forgets to bring it home. Mabel’s Labels are a tried, tested and true product in our house! If you’re sending your child to school with reusable lunch containers, make sure that you label the lid, and the base.
3. Give yourself time – Set your alarm to go off 15 minutes early. While Mom and Dad may have gotten up at the same time each day during the summer, your kids might need a little more time to get accustomed to an earlier wake time. It’s easy to overlook the actual amount of time required to get everyone ready in the mornings.
4. Prepare early – Make sure all school bags are packed and ready by the door the night before. This is a great activity to get your child in the habit of doing. Lay all clothing out the night before (this includes you too Mom/Dad!), having one less thing to do in the morning will go a long way! If time permits, prep lunches the night before as well.
5. Say CHEESE! – Once you’re all packed up and ready to go, take a picture! First day pictures are so much fun and make for a great keepsake! This site has a cute printable that you can attach your photo to with cute questions about the first day of school!
Above all else, have fun, and try not to be more nervous than your child!
